We Shall All Be Healed
God, I feel so shitty right now.
BUT!
Saturday was kevtastic fun. the Color Guard / Percussion Ensemble Championships were really cool. Made me want to join one of them percussion ensembles, even though I'd have to start out on cymbals. Good enough. The food at the place wasn't too bad either. The $2.50 for the chicken sandwich was a little overpriced, but then again I also didn't load huge amounts of mayo or tomaters on mine.
I already had a respect for color guard based on what Heather told me, but after seeing the dozens of guards that performed, it went up even more. A lot of practice and guts is needed to pull off some of these routines. Arundel placed 5th in their division, which was a little disappointing. We would have liked to see them do better.
Went with Heather's good friend Jody and her man, Andre, 23, who lifts his nose up in the air JUST A LITTLE. Too much Kev in one day WILL get you weirded out. Jody's really really nice though. Fun to talk to. The drive home was uneventful, albeit peaceful. Heather's not feeling too well now. Seemed like my entire stat class today was sick.
My new hi-hat came today. I'll get a link for it later.
Anyway, there's a huge lump in my throat. It hurts to talk (however, talking w/ the lump drastically reduces my stuttering) and swallow. My pulled hamstring is gone though. weee. so yeah. hurts like shit to swallow. and i have to do my practice AP test since it's due on friday and i'll be gone friday. say a prayer that I'm feeling better by then.
I hate to whine, but these allergies are killing me. I had a cup of lemon-flavored tea about an hour ago, which was good. Some Ibuprofen before I go to bed tonight, then some Suphedrine before I head off tomorrow.
Still going to the National Color Guard Championships with my lovely Heather tomorrow. We have to be at her friend Jody's house by 9 AM (bleh), but we'll get to see the percussion at least. Percussion rocks so much, and seeing other people who are really good makes me mega-humble. My new hi-hat (Zildjian $100) should come soon, and I will play drums more often. Drums are fun, even if I'm having an off day. Hitting things and making a cool rhythm out of it is fun. So is listening to the Skatalites, like I'm doing now. They are really amazing and funky. Check out "Cleopatra," "Lucky Seven," and "Guns of Navarone."
But yeah, I'm feeling a little achey, and that throat-lump still remains. Going to take a shower then hit the sack. Here's a little poem I wrote tonight for you (see if you can guess the metaphor):
Friday's Storm
____________
It peaks at the beginning of April,
usually in the sun, as I explore
my patience through cavities in the floor;
Friday's dark storm needs something else to fill.
These internal passages evermore!
Being blocked with the storm's rains from before!
Its hail floats through the air, onto my windowsill.
This head would rather just to sleep,
and Friday's storm remains mine to keep.
I don't know what exactly it is, but allergies really seem to enjoy bothering my LEFT EYE. For the past several days, I've had to rub this stupid eye every few seconds (or blink rapidly), creating more and more irritation as time goes on. Whatever.
The weekend was super fun. Watched a lot of NCAA Basketball, didn't do too well -- 9 wrong games in the 1st round, but I was 8/16 for the sweet 16. Two of my final four teams are already gone. If Pitt loses to OKAY STATE, then that's 3.
Saturday night, I went to the Pietasters show with Heather and Sarah. I was feeling kinda edgy, really needed to get my energy out. I was able to, quite successfully I might add. Lots of skanking, and really moist hair afterwards, from wearing that leather taxi-cab hat the whole night. Tons of fun though -- best show I've been to since Reggie and the Full Effect, when I got on stage and sung along to "Your Girlfriend Hates Me." Damn, I'm more punk rock then all of the mohawk-band patches on backpack kids at our school, and I wear PLAID eight times a week, and will vote for a Republican (STATE level, STATE!) come November.
This Saturday, me and Heather will most likely go up to some town in Pennsylvania to watch the National Color Guard Championships. I really want to go, but the one thing that really turns me off is that freaking drive. Long way. And since I missed church this week, I won't have an excuse to miss next week. Should be fun anyway.
The following weekend, I take leave of Crofton and sleep/whine in the back seat during a MIGHTY VOYAGE to Boston, where I visit Curry College and Suffolk University for their accepted student thingys. You know Curry's a small school, they offered me a "delicious brunch" with the "faculty" and "school administration." And who are these other students I keep hearing about? Don't tell me I'll have to deal with PEOPLE in college?!?
research paper status: 2.5 pages completed (goal = 7.5) due: 4/8
I took it upon myself to actually do something about the itchy tag in my shirt, so I took it off. I'm typing this WITHOUT A SHIRT. I wonder if the government is watching me. Rawr.
Got to see Heather last evening, and remembered why I think she's the most wonderful person :O). Sexy, too. Brunettes DO do it better, remember that. Also, ever since she told me they were doing "Spartacus" by this fella named Khachacturian (I think thats how you spell it) I've been listening to each Suite, in awe of it. I need to listen to more classical.
And if that isn't cool enough, I'm gonna SKA IT UP this weekend with her and my friend Sarah (Brent wants to go, but may be too tired. I don't blame him, going to that Baltimore Aquarium and all). Going to put on the skanking clothes and jam to the Pietasters, who are filming a DVD for said show at 930 club. 12 bucks a pop, and I highly doubt it'll sell out. Ska shows never do.
Ratdog (never heard of them) is playing a 930 show on March 31st for $35. Why exactly would I attend this? Because TOOTS AND THE MAYTALS are the other band. One of the biggest and best influences when it comes to ska and roots reggae.
Speaking of music, I had to play "goodnight irene" for my guitar class today, and for extra credit, I sang the song while I played (I can usually pull off a half-decent singing voice. not good, but not hideous, but my voice cracked like 1.5 times. Mr. Butts didn't seem to mind, noting that I performed "excellently" and that I have a 100%+ average in the class. Whatever he says.
Today is Wednesday. So I played drums, vacuumed the downstairs floor to get ready for Ellen and my Uncle John coming this weekend (that'll be a shocker -- going from having no one else here for X months, and now two people all of a sudden). I work tonight at 5, whoopdy doo. I got a bunch of Statastics homework I need to do. A few problems tonight, and the other 11 tomorrow.
My dear sister:
Wacky k e v 8 (1:27:00 PM): I played "goodnight irene" in guitar for mr. butts today

femmeecrite (1:31:52 PM): oh yeah, that too
Wacky k e v 8 (1:31:52 PM): what does that mean again
Wacky k e v 8 (1:31:54 PM): deviance?
femmeecrite (1:31:58 PM): great, another thing to worry about
femmeecrite (1:32:02 PM): it means
femmeecrite (1:32:20 PM): michael says, think:the rolling stones
Wacky k e v 8 (1:32:32 PM): gonna have to be more specific then that
femmeecrite (1:32:53 PM): involves lechery, substance abuse

femmeecrite (1:34:05 PM): k
Wacky k e v 8 (1:34:06 PM): or tomorrow
femmeecrite (1:34:09 PM): or, that

next update on sunday or monday. maybe. just maybe.
Parents have arranged for trips to Buffalo and Boston in April. Bam, can't wait. FAFSA and stuff is done, just gotta decide where I want to go now. No big deal...IT IS A BIG DEAL. It's education, dammit.
Saw Starsky and Hutch with Heather yesterday. Awesome possum movie -- Ben Stiller might finally be getting back on the map now, and easily Owen Wilson's best film. The cameo from Will Ferrel was the best part, though. "Let's see some belly button." We got some food, too. Good times.
Also, her friends (they enjoy talking about me ;) ] have decided that i WILL in fact go to Beach Week with them, if only for 2-3 days. $40-50 a night, I'll just start taking money out from my account, and making a little fund for it. That way, when it comes time to pay, it'll seem less painful. But I won't be drinking or going clubbing (they actually have clubs for 16 year olds and the like there -- I can't imagine how Godawful those places must be).
Going to hang out with Sarah tonight. Might go see Xanthematic in Broadneck, catch some buds from South River. Dunno.
Next week, I may attend the Pietasters show at the 930 Club with the ReadySteadyGo!, a hornless ska outfit from Baltimore. They're filming it for a DVD and recording for a CD -- mega cool. Good skanking. Very good, very rude skanking.
Also, Magnolia is the strangest movie ever.
My morning after I got home from school consisted of about one hour of work on my research paper for Criminal Justice, then I just said "screw it," and played drums, and had lunch. This is a typical Monday for me, mind you. When you get home at 10:20, there's only so much "real" work you can do. So after lunch, I'm all "I don't want to do homework," and I remember about the mail I keep waiting for.
Scurrying out the door in my socks, barely noticing the patches of wet cement, I open the mailbox and see a rather large envelope from Suffolk University. I emit an uncanny "ooooh!" and open it, only to see that I got in. bam! It was after I grabbed the other mail and brought it inside that I realized I also got mail from Curry College (7 miles south of boston, suffolk is IN boston) and lo and behold, I got in there too. I am so happy.
However, I'm torn between where I want to go. In April, I'll most likely visit both Buffalo and Boston (all three campuses) to figure out where I want to go exactly. SUNY-Buffalo has the upper hand because of money issues (SUNY offered me free room for 2 years, $7000 savings) but Boston's such a cool city. And to top it off, I already have a few friends going to Boston (I know I shouldn't try to hang onto high school buddies), but the worst is that no matter where I end up going, I'll probably be away from Heather. And that sucks, no matter how you spin it. College seems to be a mixed blessing. The good part: brand new experiences away from home. The bad part: no Heather.
UMBC hasn't taken me off their wait list yet either, but fuck them. I'm going out of state, baby.
Okay, I've got comment thingys working on this now. You can now comment on things I write in here. Yee ha!
Alright, the blog is WORKING. I know the URL is really messed up, but that's probably because I suck a lot. You can access it just as easily through kevnation.com, what with those frames at the top and all.
I'll try to update this regularly (which is like every 3-4 days if you know me) so if you like kev and his STUFF, you'll love this.
A blog devoted to the life and leisure of Kevnation's creator, Kev.

I'm Kevin. I attend
Buffalo State College in The Empire State. I'm your normal teenager who's secure enough in his masculinity to do things some people may find a little
odd. My turn-ons include long walks on the beach, poetry, and percussion.
I enjoy the music stylings of (but NEVER limited to) Morrissey, Coheed and Cambria, The Marleys (bob to ziggy), The Heptones, The Toasters, Pietasters, Queen, Luciano, Junior Murvin, NOFX, Mountain Goats, Rufus Wainwright, Death by Stereo, Passion Worship Band, Switchfoot, Five Iron Frenzy, The Darkness, CSNY, Virginia Coalition, Alexisonfire, Hopesfall, Buju Banton, Bounty Killer, MF Doom, RJD2, Kool Keith, Aesop Rock, DJ Shadow, King Geedorah, Why?, Bright Eyes, Wilco, Tom Waits, Talib Kweli, Neva Dinova, Beastie Boys, and even Jay-Z.
I enjoy reading The Bible, Dan Brown, CS Lewis, John Steinbeck (favorite author), Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Eugene Peterson.
I'm an avid poet (not so much anymore) and reader of poetry. My favorite poets are Stanley Kunitz, Alan Ginsberg, Tuli Kupferberg, Bret Hubinger (AACC Professor!), Walt Whitman, and Edward Thomas.
