We Shall All Be Healed
Tuesday, October 23, 2007
Dear Elle,

Maybe one day, perhaps, a real update. About my life. Maybe.

Until then, a poem:

Sea Change
__________

I think the sea changes in our lives
are marked by our biggest failures,
or our most iconoclastic moments;
(these two
are not to be confused)

where your personal lightning
strikes an entire ocean,
years of wandering thunder set aside

for one brief second where
the salt water undulates
over your eyelids, carrying

images of ten thousand
anemones, gently gliding
across the seabed, and you,

with your soul
spread out across the large,
flat rocks.

i waited for you, but I never told you where I was.
it was you who taught me how to write this kind of equation.
i waited on the steps for you,
and you taught me how to listen to these distant stations,
distant stations.

I'm Kevin. I attend Buffalo State College in The Empire State. I am a Social Work major, and therefore love all kinds of people. I hide my emotions, play cards for money, and believe in God.

Music-wise, I listen to The Mountain Goats, John Vanderslice, Animal Collective, Jackson Browne, Akron/Family, Why?, Sufjan Stevens, John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Bob Dylan, and a lot of folk/bluegrass.

I enjoy reading The Bible, Sherwood Andersen, CS Lewis, John Steinbeck (favorite author), Dean Koontz, Henry David Thoreau, Stephen King, and Eugene Peterson.

I'm an avid poet (not so much anymore) and reader of poetry. My favorite poets are Stanley Kunitz, Alan Ginsberg, Tuli Kupferberg, Bret Hubinger (AACC Professor!), Walt Whitman, and Edward Thomas.
